This section is about Christel Röttinger, Senior Vice President Sales EU/AU/CAD at Amoena Medizin-Orthopädie-Technik GmbH.

1. from your perspective, what is the outlook for your sector over the next 12 months?

The medical-orthopaedic technology sector has a positive outlook overall, particularly due to demographic change, technological innovations and growing health awareness.

2. how do you think the working environment and staff have changed since the pandemic?

The Covid-19 pandemic has permanently changed the working environment in this market. There is a shortage of skilled workers in medical practices, hospitals, doctors’ surgeries and pharmacies. Digitalization, flexible working models and the implementation of innovative technologies could bring great added value here. What’s more, patients are not motivated to go to the doctor to get a prescription for the care they need, for example.

3 What do you consider to be the most important skills in a professional environment?

Enjoyment of work, willingness to succeed, specialist knowledge, willingness to keep learning, open to change and help shape change.

4 How do you assess the further development of AI?

Future generations will want to work differently and less. We already have too few skilled workers. This hole will get bigger when the baby boomer generation retires. We can and must replace some of the work with AI. This will drive the further development of AI. We had a similar situation in the 18th century with the start of industrialization. People in factories worked up to 16 hours a day. They fought to have to work fewer hours. The GAP was absorbed by machines.

5 Where would you be today if you had taken a different career path?

I always wanted to work in medicine and run my own business. I have realized this wish.
